Malls are dead. I remember the food court, video arcade, and quirky little stores.
Still remember my dad lamenting the death of Main Street, because of the mall.
Nicholas Cage’s first big role IIRC.
Fast Times at Ridgemont High is the ultimate Mall movie.
And then there’s “Mall Rats”.
Fun movie. Awesome soundtrack.
Really sad. Like my English teacher, he’s like, he’s like Mr. Bu-Fu! We’re talking Lord God King Bu-Fu! I am so sure. He’s, like, so gross! Like, he sits there and, like, plays with all his rings and he, like flirts with all the guys in the class! It’s, like, totally disgusting! I’m like, so sure, it’s like barf me out, gag me with a spoon! …
Didn’t Frank Zappa do the soundtrack?
I don’t remember the movie at all, but the music was great.
The Plimsouls - “A Million Miles Away.”
Malls were where teens would hang out in the days before there were Teens
There are two kinds of malls:
The malls the white people go to, and the malls the white people used to go to.
-Chris Rock
😆
Zappa was not a part of the movie, which was inspired by his song ‘Valley Girl’ a year earlier. He tried a lawsuit, but was unsuccessful.
Yes, and I liked Julie’s father....sex, drugs and R&R.....
Today Randy would be struggling with transgender issues
and would be insisting on gender equity.
Julie would be a punching bag , a drug addict, with many pregnancies solved by multiple abortions.
IN the end they would sort it all out , get married, live on welfare, but her ability to have children would have been lost.
ha happy ending! ( sarc.)
I was never enamored of malls, but it was nice to know that teens had a healthy place to socialize.
About fifteen years ago, I met a client at a mall restaurant. I was shocked to see the change. Instead of cute little teens giggling and gossiping, the place was packed with roaming herds of muffin-topped hippos wrapped in spandex. Gross!
“When they attack the car, save the radio.”
Oh ok. Thanks! I remember the song well back then.
