That sounds like the advice from Virginians that I know: "REAL Virginia is west of Roanoke."
Memphis is Tennessee’s Chicago. Stay away from there. We went through there once and have never been back. It’s beautiful, but dangerous after dark.
Nashville is great to visit but I don’t advise living around it. My parents lived there for a while.
The east side of TN is more mountainous and “farmy”.
