The computer has no idea what the content of a post is. It checks spelling. And it is good at it. Auto-correct is also dumb to what your meaning is.
The real problem is proofreading. People don't want to take the few seconds it takes. Then blame auto-correct.
A lot of modern browsers check spelling and grammar. Some even attempt to complete your sentences. If a person doesn’t know what is correct and what is not, they might trust the computer. Computers are not perfect.
If people with old eyes post from a cell phone, mistakes are made because the keys are close, and the screen is small.
Not everybody had a top-notch education.
I’m not calling anybody out for a misspelled word or a grammar mistake. As long as I can figure out what they mean, I’m good.
This conversation reminded me of a pet peeve of my English grammar professor in college. He was from Wisconsin but teaching college down South.
He said that he cringes when he hears people say they were sitting in the road or sitting in the floor. He said that nobody can physically sit in a road or in a floor. You sit on a road or on a floor. I have heard it said wrong my entire life and even now I catch myself typing it wrong and have to correct it. Even our teachers at school said it wrong. 😁
I notice poor grammar but I’m not OCD about it. My husband is a retired electrical engineer, and he can butcher the English language better than anybody I know. Sometimes he will ask me how to spell something because spellchecker told him that his way was wrong. When I spell it to him he says, “that’s now how I say it”. I just laugh and say “yep”.
Autocorrect can kiss my ask!
Seriously, why does it change what I type correctly to something completely different, but leaves mistakes like tgere alone?
