The Newport News Sheriff’s Office says that two inmates, aged 37 and 43, went missing from their cell in the Newport News jail annex during a routine head count on Monday evening.
The men used improvised tools made from a toothbrush and a metal object to exploit a weakness in the jail’s construction design and access rebars between the walls. They then used the rebar to further their escape and scaled a containment wall around the jail.
The authorities sought the public’s help to locate the men, and they were subsequently apprehended early Tuesday at an IHOP restaurant in Hampton, following a tip from other patrons.

I am feeling a bit down market. For about five years, when living in Tallahassee, I frequented a nearby Waffle House about twice a month for a quick breakfast and was often the only white person in the place. As always in restaurants, I was pleasant to the servers and tipped generously — and was consistently treated well.
C’mon man, not even First Watch?
I’m guessing a couple of guys in the pen are used to hanging with their ‘group’ and might feel uncomfortable with a more diverse clientele.
Me, I don’t have problems unless someone else brings them, wherever I go.
Bacon, eggs, hash browns, coffee, Waffle House is the winner. I guess those guys were looking for pancakes.
One Friday evening at the Waffle House stands out in my memory. Several rowdy black kids had gathered in the parking lot and were smoking dope as I was paying my tab. The black manager was working the register and asked me to wait a moment. Then he and a black cook with a baseball bat at the ready preemptively went out and ran the miscreants off. As I thanked them, the manager said, “That’s what you get when there is no father at home and no church on Sunday.” That succinctly sums up many volumes of conservative research and commentary.
They should have run, not hopped.
