At about the same time, disabled veterans were gaining political strength; Stalin did not approve.

Many stories about this, some true others questionable.

Solzhenitsyn mentions it in The Gulag Archipelago.

Those numbers sound very consistent with the reality. Though it's the first time to see any Ukrainian numbers. I wouldn't doubt them for sure.
