Sugar, or highly refined carbohydrate is like a drug. It gets you high.
I didn’t need a joint study from Cologne/Yale to tell me that. People eat high fat high sugar foods because, get this, they taste good. It has nothing to do with willpower.
The one thing I’ve noticed lately, and here again it seems conspicuous, is this insistence that willpower is somehow not a factor in dieting or food choices or losing excess body fat. Anybody tries to tell you that is sorely mistaken, or a liar.
It may be important to not tempt oneself too much with candy and snacks, I’ve a poor record myself with food portions. Like most things that are successful in the long run it does require motivation, self control and discipline.
Still can’t understand why willpower (as a catchall for many excellent character traits) is such a dirty word.
