Did anybody see this?
Yes, Watched it at the time. Thought it was good then. Still do.
Believe it was real? No. And I don’t think anyone else did either.
I remember seeing that ...
I saw it...it was pretty heavily hyped. I can’t see how anyone could have thought it was real. There were only 3 channels and you had a tv guide so there wasn’t much chance of making that mistake.
The ending a week after the nuclear blast in Charleston, SC, the news readers, report on labor unrest and forget about Charleston, SC plight.
Now that I read my above writing, it was kinda of prophetic, current news cycle wise.
I was attending the Navy’s nuclear weapons maintenance school at the time, watching it in the barracks TV lounge with my classmates. We got a kick out of it.
“Did anybody see this?”
No, but “Able Archer 83” came pretty damn close to actually doing that.

Do not under estimate the stupidity of people.
During Gilligan’s Island original run, people contacted the Coast Guard asking them to rescue the castaways.
Holy smokes I remember that!! Something about a boat in Charleston Harbor with a nuke onboard. I thought I was losing my mind. it would come to mind every so often, and I would ask people about it, and nobody had any recollection of it.
I did. It was very good. Never believed it was real, though.
I remember “the Day After”, it seemed sort of negative, or maybe I was just in a bad mood when I watched it.
First time I heard the intro to Outer Limits I was scared to death the communists had taken over the country. Only off by 5 decades.
I remember it too. I was a former armor officer and nbc officer. I remember one of the disposal guys say “its getting hot in here,” before it blew. I will have to watch it again.
I remember watching it.
I also remember how the national networks were eager to create nuclear catastrophe movies during Republican administrations.
But now, with a Democrat President, they completely ignore the fact that we’re currently the closest we’ve been to a nuclear confrontation than at any time since the Cuban Missile Crisis...
...which also occurred during a Democrat administration.
“It was a dumb movie, filmed in video tape, foreshadowed, ABC’s “the Day After” and the BBC’s “Threads””
In the movie a large part of the population was still lingering within the blast radius when the bomb was detonated. In real life everyone within a 10 mile radius would’ve been evacuated long before the bomb was detonated.
Nobody thought this was real. That’s BS.
This kind of sounds like a rip-off of Orson Welles’s radio broadcast of the late 30s about aliens from outer space invading.
There was actual panic in the streets! ;-)
It was clearly a TV program. Anyone who thought it was real should have had their reproductive organs removed.
“Threads” made “The Day After” look like a comedy.
