Unlike Trump, DeSantis does not have an easy natural touch with people. At his inauguration parties as Governor, for example, DeSantis was consistently unable to make small talk even with key donors and supporters. And DeSantis has a history of shedding old supporters and making them into enemies.

To a surprising degree, a lot of politicians are like that, being cold fish lacking personal rapport with others. A gregarious wife can help remedy that defect, but professional handlers are often needed for the heavy lifting of major public events and political strategy. And every now and then, the struggle to pose in public as a decent sort goes wrong.
