Whatever you want believe. But those kind of chairs are not made to rest your arms on, so you have to grip them somewhere. Look at the gentle curve where you would prefer to place your elbows but can’t. And the skinny rounded surface of the chair arms.
My dad’s aunt had chairs similar to that in her formal living room. They were fancy looking, but the last chairs occupied when family wanted to sit in something comfortable.
