PORTLAND, Ore. — Dozens of concerned residents in the Montavilla neighborhood attended a town hall Saturday afternoon to get information and share their concerns regarding a planned homeless community.
“We are saturated with crime, and we can’t take any more crime,” said Elizabeth Litster, who lives in the neighborhood.
“We are up to here with it.”
Litster has lived in the neighborhood for 20 years. She says for the past several years, crime has risen, and she doesn’t think building a homeless community will help.
“They seem to be bringing in higher concentrations of homeless which equals more crime, garbage, rats, needles, and a lot of these people are mentally ill, and they end up being victimized by the drug dealers and the criminals who are taking advantage of them,” she said.
The Joint Office of Homeless Services plans to transform the former RV dealership on 82nd Avenue into a ‘safe park’ – a place where homeless people can safely park cars to sleep in.

I'd like to know how they voted.
Basically Hoovervilles from 1932 or so.
Elizabeth, have you been voting democrat for the last 20 years?
Good, they should be afraid, very afraid. By the end of 6 months the place will look like a bomb went off and stink of poop, urine and disease.
Not quite. Residents of Hoovervilles were, for the most part, actually willing to work.
I will bet $100 she has a "Black Lives Matter" and "Hate Has No Home Here" sign on her lawn or front window.
You forgot the vomit.......lots of vomit
The left wingnut's weeping and wailing nimby's that continually vote
for the current portland politicos are music to my ears.
Don’t forget the obligatory “coexist” bumper sticker.
Everytime I see one of those I think, don’t tell me....tell THEM.
So many vote for policies that lead to these conditions, but don’t worry about it until it comes to their neighborhood or pocketbook.
‘Cmon man! You know the answer, I’m not joking.
Yeah, as usual, they’re all lefty and liberal and support the progressive candidate - until that “lety-ness” strikes their own neighborhoods (which they deserve). Then they raise hell.
Reminds me of when Hillary’s adopted “hometown” of Chappaqua, NY bitterly fought Section 8 housing for years on end, hiring the best lawyers, etc. They don’t want it in THEIR posh neighborhoods, only yours. Chappaqua eventually lost, after about a decade of fighting the government in court.
They deserve it. Portland too.
Embrace the suck ... you voted for it.
Isn’t all of Portland now a homeless camp, no neighborhood spared? I am sure glad I sold my house and moved from in 2002. It only took me just over two years to realize there was zero future in Portland. Nothing I’ve read or seen since suggests I was wrong.
And driving a Subaru or old Volvo.
But this is a proud democrat run city in a democrat run State, over 75% of the inhabitants VOTED FOR THIS! Suck it up and enjoy it, you own it.
Here ya go - looks like all democrats. These are the policies and politicians they voted for so they need to stfu and start making those ‘Welcome Homeless’ signs for their new neighbors. Zoom out and the entire state is almost all liberal with a little bit of mixed libs/Republicans areas with an emphasis on libs.

I saw a bumper sticker on the back of a Ford truck that said “you can’t coexist with people who want to kill you”.
