"There's a warning on alcohol bottles, there's a warning on cigarettes that tell you what's going to happen but for nitrous oxide, there's nothing," Oliveri said.

That would be because you are not suppose to take it you dimwit.

To a person of normal intellect this would be what is known as a "clue". But for a stupid druggie it means take as much as you like.

I’d like to feel sorry for these two.

But I’m in my 50s at the end of a decent career and I still don’t have the sort of disposable income that these two losers blew through in their 30s on laughing gas. This comes on top of what appears to be their existing cannabis habits.

Even if I did have that sorta cash floating around, I have a helluva lot more interests than sitting around inhaling balloons full of gas to get some temporary giggles.

Frankly, the two of them strike me as pathetic. If Karma’s a thing, then she’s beating down the door with these two to try and get their attention. Maybe it’s not too late for them to wake up.

Quite a story, thanks for posting. I had no idea nitrous oxide could do this.

I worked in an ice cream store back in the day, and one of my co-workers was always huffing the gas out of the whipped cream cans. If you don’t shake it, the gas is all at the top. But then the contents come out as just mush, not “whipped”. This was annoying! Especially as we were required to charge an extra 10 cents for whipped cream!

As to the two dopes in this story, the nitrous clearly isn’t working for them. If they can’t stay sober, my advice is to start drinking beer and smoking cigarettes immediately. Stick to organics, people, eschew chemical intoxicants.

His body warned him several times that after several years of sniffing nitrous oxide, something was wrong, but he just kept right on inhaling. Both he and his ‘fiance’ have been inhaling the chemical even just weeks ago.
Sometimes you can’t judge a book by the cover, but sometimes you can. Look at his slovenly appearance, that ratty, uncombed beard. Someone devoid of all ambition.

They own four large dogs. Most likely, he will need to sell them all, since he can’t take them for regular walks. This is the kind of drug abuse one used to only see from teenagers. It was called ‘huffing’ back then.

Nitrous Oxide-Induced Vitamin B12 Deficiency Resulting in Myelopathy

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7366039/

“Neurologic symptoms associated with nitrous oxide use have been attributed to vitamin B12 deficiency. Through oxidation, nitrous oxide inactivates vitamin B12. In its inactive form, vitamin B12 is unable to function as a co-factor for methionine synthase and methylmalonyl coA mutase. The former converts homocysteine into methionine, which is necessary for the production of myelin proteins, while also converting 5-methyl-tetrahydrofolate into tetrahydrofolate, which is necessary for DNA synthesis. The latter converts methyl-malonyl CoA into succinyl CoA [1]. The effect of nitrous oxide on vitamin B12 levels has been demonstrated in studies. One such study conducted by Hakimoglu and colleagues, demonstrated lower postoperative serum vitamin B12 levels in 81 patients who received anesthesia with nitrous oxide, compared to preoperative levels [6].

The inability to produce myelin proteins and stabilize myelin sheaths due to vitamin B12 deficiency ultimately leads to demyelination involving the peripheral and the central nervous systems [2]. Complications associated with vitamin B12 deficiency, including agranulocytosis, bone marrow suppression, psychosis, subacute combined degeneration of the spinal cord, myeloneuropathy, polyneuropathy, and peripheral neuropathy have been reported with nitrous oxide use [1-3]. Nitrous oxide is also postulated to cause damage to the neurologic system via direct mechanisms, including oxidative stress and neurotoxicity via antagonism of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors [1]. “

Patients may present with low vitamin B12 levels, as well as elevated homocysteine and methylmalonic acid levels. Classic MRI findings associated with nitrous oxide-induced vitamin B12 deficiency include T2 hyperintensity in the posterior columns, usually over several vertebral segments, with or without involvement of the lateral corticospinal tracts. These findings represent myelin sheath degeneration [2]. Treatment consists of vitamin B12/cobalamin supplementation, with response monitored both clinically (symptomatically) and via biochemical markers such as vitamin B12, methylmalonic acid, and homocysteine levels.

He took it at parties for about a year and stopped until he moved to Portland in 2020 and discovered the super-size cylinders containing 20 pounds of nitrous oxide — equivalent to 1,600 0.2-ounce capsules — and costing around $400 each.

As the cylinders weren't available in his area, he'd use 400 to 500 canisters a day for about a year to achieve the same euphoric effects.

Dumbass. No sympathy whatsoever.

Every dentist trip that I have Nitrous Oxide I carry a bottle of B-12 sublingual and have the nurse give me 3 at the end of the dental procedure.

1st time I didn’t “wake” up for 3 days, called dentist and after much research he called me back and told me to take 3 B-12 and in another 15 min take 3 more. Back to normal in 30 minutes.
