One of my favorite stories from Basic Training was of a big, scary-dumb dude that showed up with a bunch of climbing gear, and cans of dog food. The TIs were on him, asking him WTF he was thinking. The climbing gear was kind of self-explanatory, except that he wasn’t going to have time or opportunity to use it, but what’s with the dog food? His answer...”Dog food good for muscles.”
I think every kid tries a little of the dog’s food at some time.

My climbing partners did an Alaska fly-in climb; I was gainfully employed and had to work.
On the plane, they noticed bags of dog food, and ask about the pup.
The pilot said he used to keep bags of chocolate and treats for emergencies, but tended to snack on them.
A fellow pilot told him to sample several brands of dry dog food and pick the best one.
No more in-flight snacking.
And there for an emergency.
