When this Covid stuff began, such practices pretty much ceased. The new method of setting vents was incomprehensible to me. It seemed that every Patient was on settings quite different from each other. To me it was as if they were searching for some formula which would work universally. There was constant tweaking of the settings with minuscule alterations that seemed to serve no actual purpose other than it was a change or adjustment.
After several months of this stuff, I began to physically break down. We were working non stop 12 hour shifts, and being pressured to pick up overtime. The money was great but the physical drain was incredible. Soon we were being augmented by ‘Travelers’ from different areas of the country. The entire Department was unrecognizable.
I made a decision and I left following the advent of the new obvious BS ‘vaccine.’ Of course it would soon be mandated. There was no way that I would ever submit to that garbage. Word is that my Department has lost at least 25% of staff. I do not know the precise number but it is certainly significant. Likely the replacements are mostly young with little experience. Guaranteed they are not programming ventilator settings independently.
Ventilation is complex stuff. It is not just pushing air into the lungs. There are pressures, volumes, rates, and O2 percentages among other things. Bad settings can impact blood pressure, heart rate, Os Saturation, and a lot of other factors.
I honestly believe that the large majority of people are unaware of what is happening via mechanical ventilation. New or young Physicians are no exception.

During WWII after Allied bombing, the Germans made the POWs move the ruble to point A. Then they had them move the ruble to point B. The second time of moving, a large percentage of them died. There was no point in the work, There was no purpose in living.
