The formidable head of a pride of lions has been killed in a vicious attack by younger rivals.
Bob Junior - named after legendary reggae singer Bob Marley - was an incredibly photogenic big cat and a fan favourite with tour operators and visitors, who have paid tribute to him online.
With his brother Tryggve, the 'coolest cat' in the Serengeti National Park had ruled his pride for more than seven years.
The lion, who was also known as Snyggve and who some believed relished his celebrity status, did not put up a fight when he was mauled by younger rivals on Saturday.
Tryggve is also believed to have been killed in a separate attack and a special burial is being planned by wildlife conservationists for the brothers.

Thanks.
I don’t know the complete story timing of when each died. But the sibling had been with him as a pair over the pride for sometime....there’s another series about this from while back.
You’re probably right...he had been attacked before in a weakened state but still fought and drove them off. He really was the “King” til the very end.
#60 Women!...!
I was mocking the liberals who decry the treatment of zoo animals, when they are safe from predation, don’t have to compete with rivals, and get Veterinary care. Meanwhile, real lions in the wild end up getting killed by rivals.
I wasn’t refering to this story so much as reading about lions being killed by rivals reminded me how much better animals have it in the zoo, and how liberals think they don’t.
Spencer is a good hunter, but he is taking forever to get to Montana. I look forward to him getting some kills there.
He just got kicked off a boat.
It’s painful watch how long it’s taking them. As much crap as Spencer and Alexandra get involved in, they need their series!
Exactly!!!
One can only imagine what will happen on the ocean voyage across the Atlantic and the trip across America. Maybe it will take a whole season. Then, the ranch will be saved in the final five minutes of the show.
