Many of the dozen or so candidates that come to mind quickly are obvious and have been listed, but here four that haven’t—two of whom I have founded hope of drinking with at some point—something good to look forward to outside of Lent.
Which brings to mind a verse out of
A Christmas poem, by Hilaire Belloc (1911):
“May all good fellows that here agree
Drink Audit Ale in heaven with me,
And may all my enemies go to hell!
Noel! Noel! Noel! Noel!
May all my enemies go to hell!
Noel! Noel!”
(A poem that is not entirely in the Christian, Lenten, or even Christmas spirit—but good fun never the less).
Hieronymus.... I look forward to it and one of these days, we’ll make it happen! I very much appreciate both your posts and messages.
The Belloc poem conjures the modern, dumbed-down version....which brings to mind all of the Seinfeldian scholars on FR.
All of which to say, there’s a lot of beer in the world, so who knows?
