Best Picture WILL WIN: Everything Everywhere All at Once
A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once is the likeliest winner, having swept the guilds’ top honors, including the Producers Guild’s, which is decided on a preferential ballot, and also won Critics Choice and Spirit Award prizes, among many others. But the Academy’s preferential ballot wouldn’t seem to favor such a polarizing film — many Academy members love it, but many others found it incomprehensible — so an upset could come from German-language All Quiet on the Western Front, which dominated at the BAFTA Awards (indicating strong European support) and would be Netflix’s first-ever winner in this category, or Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick, a critical and commercial triumph that helped to revive theatrical moviegoing. — Scott Feinberg
SHOULD WIN: The Banshees of Inisherin
My heart beats strongest for this two-man civil war tragicomedy, which shows a new maturity and depth of feeling from Martin McDonagh. It assembles a peerless ensemble, each of them etching finely drawn character portraits, not to mention scene-stealer Jenny, the miniature donkey. Todd Field’s caustic reflection on abuse of power, Tár, would be another deserving winner. — David Rooney

So far I’ve seen EEAAO and top gun. I didn’t realize the husband was Short Round from temple of doom.
Freegards
“Look out. She’s acting!”
I havent seen his movie but I did watch a little documentary on the movie that HBO Max did because it is leaving this month. I don’t have a 60 inch television. More like 42 inch. I had to look carefully to figure out if they were showing a clip of Elvis or Austin at times.
I had to explain to my nephew who loved Team America that it was a homage to a TV show I watched as a kid in the late 60’s - The Thunderbirds.

Why would she wear those shoes with dirty toenails?
I often wonder who dresses these women, and who thinks they look good in the outfit.
“YOU SHALL DIE A PEASANT’S DEATH!”
i still laugh at Lady Gaga trying to outdo Mick Jagger

Mick showed up at an Arsenal game this weekend wearing a hat that said DILF. I had to look up what it meant

Yep me to. Ex. Hillary and Moochie
I noticed those toenails too!
Many of them get paid to wear these dresses. That probably plays a part in it.
Hugh Grant got upstaged by Liz Hurley during a premier of a movie with that safety pin dress. She said it was the only thing left at the Designers shop. Don’t know if she was paid to wear it.
None of us cares who wins the little statue. That's not the point. I pay a bit of attention because it's a screening device -- just one of many, but if a lot of people who watch movies for a living think something has merit, maybe it's worth reading a review and watching a trailer.
Do you watch any movies at all, either at home or in the theater? Do you watch any shows on tv? If so, you are a consumer of what the film industry produces.
How do you choose what to watch? Do you do your own picking, or do you outsource that to the streamers' algorithms?
Btw, I have the Oscars on in another window; I'm not paying much attention but I'm checking in on major awards.
Le Huy Quan just now gave the kind of speech you thought the Hollywood people no longer know how to give. He is ethnic Chinese, born in Vietnam. His American story started as one of the Vietnamese boat people; a very young child, he and five siblings escaped with their father by boat, while is mother and three more kids got out through Maylasia. He began with a tearful tribute to his mother, who is 84 and was watching from home. Then a tearful testimonial to America and a tearful tribute to his wife. You would almost think he was one of the Jewish emigres who had so much to do with making Hollywood what it was in the patriotic era both before and after WWII. Yeah, they're all bums in Hollywood.
Um, obviously a bunch of us find it interesting. Why are you even commenting if you don’t care???!
I gotta say... WTF?
WHO CARES????
Message discipline is certainly being challenged. There will be plenty of diversity at the Oscars, as there has been at the other major awards. It will be mostly Asian and almost (entirely?) due to EEAAO. Times they are a’changing.
She does have a great voice.
