Around midnight on Saturday, the levee along the Pajaro River in north Monterey County was breached, forcing thousands of residents of the Pajaro to evacuate in the middle of the night.
According to Monterey County, both the Monterey County Water Resources Agency and the California Department of Water Resources were along the levee trying to stop the flooding when the levee was breached.
Earlier in the day, the Monterey County Sheriff's Office had issued an evacuation order for the community of Pajaro. Volunteers, including Monterey County Supervisor Luis Alejo and Santa Cruz County Supervisors Felipe Hernandez, had knocked on doors telling residents of the risk they faced if they stayed.
"THANK YOU to the volunteers who walk door-to-door once again in #Pajaro to warn residents about the evacuation," Alejo tweeted about the effort.
In the middle of the night, first responders responded to Pajaro to support the evacuation. In addition to local firefighters and law enforcement, the National Guard, with highwater rescue vehicles, were in the area. MST busses were called in to get residents out before the flood waters hit the town.
Evacuation centers had been opened at the Santa Cruz Fairground - located at 2061 E. Lake Blvd., Watsonville - and at Compass Church - 10325 S. Main St.
Cal Guard reported Saturday morning that they had helped in the rescue of 56 people as flood waters rose in Pajaro.
So where is our Dyslectic Governor?
“Atmospheric River Surge”
When did they start with that bit of linguistic nonsense? Do they mean heavy rain? Showers? Not enough drama for the climate llamas?
Another excuse for their governor to go on another beach vacation.
Oh noes! Weather. Never live below a dam or too close to the river. Just sayin’.
“ “Atmospheric River Surge””
Does that mean, “rain?”
Worst drought ever. All because of global warming. Can’t make up this shit.
It means "rain caused by white men driving SUV's." :)
I guess it means "rain" with a happy, heapin', helpin' of "impending doom."
All last night I sat on the levee and moaned.
L
Right after the “polar vortex” crap started.
Somehow, they can’t pronounce *weather*, *thunderstorms*, *cold front*, etc etc etc.
And don’t you just love how every time we have an El Nino event, everyone forgets we regularly get El Nino events in a cycle?
And then when the La Nina event (the dry phase) happens, everyone jumps around shouting about how the drought will be forever!
When the West is wet, we in the East are dry; conversely it’s true. It’s incredibly hilarious and stupid those eco-morons are.
Just imagine how bad it would be if we weren’t in the worst drought in history
Let’s go Gavin!
AKA “Pineapple Express”
Iirc, it’s also opposite in the south hemisphere from the north hemisphere.
So, when we’re wetter than usual in the north, they’re drier than usual in the south. and vise versa.
Also, the jet stream usually plays silly games during our El Nino. I remember one time, in the 90s iirc, they tried to fear porn us into believing the jet stream was gonna come all the way down to ground level.
