You'll love having Dahlias. I buy the el-cheapos at Walmart and start them early in pots in the greenhouse and enjoy them late Summer into Fall up here. They are my last bloomers of the season. Some of them will need staking.

I don't bother saving the tubers, (sacrilege to some!) but you can certainly do that, too.

My fave, that is easy to find in the Walmart stock is, 'Cafe Au Lait' Dinner Plate Dahlia. Sometimes they're more 'chocolate' and sometimes more pink; probably depends upon soil acidity, though I don't know for sure. :

Anything in the 'Kelvin' series is wonderful, too!

I will probably just start mine in the garden mid-May, earlier if the weather forecast is good.

Not sure about saving bulbs - probably will for the ones that do well. My niece saves hers, my SIL doesn’t.

I’ll keep my eye out for ‘Kelvins’! Walmart did not have a good selection yesterday. Based on prices I’ve seen online, I did ok, even at Lowe’s.

LOVE the one in your picture.
