I remember drawing my first chain link fence post for a demo...it was like that the sculpture on “Everyone Loves Raymond”.
phallic yes, but if you use swords, that “phallic” part helps balance the weight of the blade for a more balanced weapon. A weapon like that probably balances a few fingers forward of the hilt making it easier to wield.
