I was admitted to Columbia in 1957 and was awarded a Columbia National Scholarship based on my SAT scores, my high school GPA as well as some extracurricular activities in high school sports, student government, etc.
My family was probably way below the average income for Ivy League schools and I wouldn’t be surprised if that played some part in the full scholarship that paid virtually all my expenses.
I thought I was part of the diversity that the school wanted in the student body, but I guess the new situation would leave out my most important qualification for a school looking for intellectual and academic excellence.
I wonder if I would make the cut for admissions today with the new rules and stadards.
