Texas Tech men’s basketball coach Mark Adams resigned Wednesday night following controversy over a Bible reference he used referencing a slave and master when talking to a player. Adams was initially suspended for the comment over the weekend, but things went it a step further. He was also accused of spitting on a player – something he denied doing.
"My lifelong goal was to help and be a positive influence on my players, and to be a part of the Texas Tech men's basketball team," Adams said. "However, both the University and I believe this incident has become a distraction for the Texas Tech men's basketball team and the University, which I care about so deeply."
Adams was suspended for using what the school called "an inappropriate, unacceptable, and racially insensitive comment" toward a student-athlete. The school said Adams was attempting to encourage the student-athlete, who was not named, "to be more receptive to coaching." The school said Adams "referenced Bible verses about workers, teachers, parents, and slaves serving their masters."
The coach explained to Stadium on Sunday he was quoting a verse from the Bible and told one of the players there is "always a master and a servant." He added that he was just "quoting scripture" when talking about a player being coachable.
"I said that in the Bible that Jesus talks about how we all have bosses, and we all are servants," Adams told Stadium. "I was quoting the Bible about that."

Everyone knows that basketball players are criminals and thugs, not really the religious types.
The only type of person who would see the coach’s comment as racist is a racist (e.g., a person obsessed with “race”; a Democrat/Communist/Leftist).
We are destroying ourselves as a nation. Everything is offensive, everyone is offended, no one is immune, narcissists are everywhere, trans women(men) are honored on Womens day, Catholics who are devout are the target of FBI watchlists, etc. Words, simple words of wisdom now from the Bible gets you fired.
Much of his coaching time was at very faith centered colleges. He is considered a very good coach but he also has had a tough year after better years when starting at Texas Tech.
He only had two years. This year’s roster was mostly scrubs.
All of life follows a Seinfeld episode.
I appreciate that but last year he had a 12-6 3rd place conference year versus a 5-13 9th place this year. he had been very much a part of Texas Tech in an AD or Assistant role many of the last dozen years. They have had big recruiting problems with Chris Beard leaving and surrounding dust ups.
Just praying to Jesus in public now gets people arrested in Canada. The left claim that public praying is “intimidating and disruptive”
People always said the us would fall, from Within, and it certainly looks like the left are making that come true.
There are plenty of Bible verses and Mark picks one that involves slaves. Not too bright.
They will hire Chris Beard
I believe old Nikita Khrushchev was the first to figure this out.
Yep- that;s who it was i beleive- other pundits though have also said the same thing as they observed the nation’s decent into the gutter because of rabid liberals-
Wouldn’t that give the pundits something to talk about. Beard would have to take Woke-Anger Management counseling and Women’s Sensitivity Training I suppose. Can’t be coming back fighting with your girlfriend anymore.
This is false, there are many mid-major BB players who are excellent young men.
Most mid-major colleges can show multiple decades where 100% of their student athletes graduate w degrees.
BS
