The three most deadly movements of the last 100 years were eugenics, nazism, and communism. All three had “science” as their centerpiece. All there had “we are only following the science” as their most important propaganda line.
It’s utter arrogance to claim “science” has suddenly arrived at accuracy. Point me to a single time in human history when science was correct.
30 years ago when everyone knew ulcers were caused by worry and a high carb diet was good?
90 years ago when they were sure pellagra was caused by a germ?
150 years ago when they believed in phrenology? When they were certain a dead body recorded the image of the killer on their dead eyes?
Oh back when they thought our solar system has the entire universe? Tell me exactly when science was correct. And while you’re not arrogant as hell for thinking that this is the error on now we know everything?
The real problem here is the general acceptance of the phrase “settled science”. We are told that once the science is “settled”, no further debate is allowed. And anyone who tries must be a kook or a hater. Cancel that person!
Well, science is never settled. You mentioned a few examples of how science went wrong. Fortunately, researchers were free to question those theories, and debunk them where necessary.
No longer. Climate Change is settled science. Covid vaccination is settled science. Etc. All debate is prohibited. Just like it was back in the Dark Ages. It’s quite chilling, actually.
Ever hear of penicillin? Semiconductors? Radio?
