The real problem here is the general acceptance of the phrase “settled science”. We are told that once the science is “settled”, no further debate is allowed. And anyone who tries must be a kook or a hater. Cancel that person!
Well, science is never settled. You mentioned a few examples of how science went wrong. Fortunately, researchers were free to question those theories, and debunk them where necessary.
No longer. Climate Change is settled science. Covid vaccination is settled science. Etc. All debate is prohibited. Just like it was back in the Dark Ages. It’s quite chilling, actually.
Science is useful as a tool for many things. But it is never a basis for government and law.
If it was we wouldn’t need a government, just a committee of scientists would suffice.
Agree. We not only have a right to question everything that is supposedly “the science”, but nearly a duty to do so.
And that is all the way back. Nothing is established. If you want to repeat Newton’s experiments of dropping two objects to confirm his findings, nobody can say you are doing anything wrong.
When someone claims “science” must be accepted, you are facing a tyrant.
In general, I notice that most people in that “I effing love science” crowd have weaponized science in the service of their love of atheism, and their hatred for normal America.
