Two native Hawaiian men were sentenced to prison terms for a federal hate crime in the brutal beating of a white man who was trying to move into their remote Maui village.
A jury in November found that Kaulana Alo-Kaonohi and Levi Aki Jr. attacked Christopher Kunzelman because of his race — punching, kicking and beating him with a shovel in 2014, when he tried to move into their neighborhood of Kahakuloa.

That's America's DOJ in action.
They should’ve been given the death penalty.
It took nine years to prosecute what should have been a slam dunk guilty verdict?
It would have been nice to get an update on how this married couple is now doing. His wife has MS. He was hoping to repair the place making it easier for her to live there.
What happened to these two?

Murder? I did not read that the victim died.
There was no murder. 78 months and 50 months in a Federal Prison is a pretty severe sentence. There is no parole. They might get out a few months early if they behave, but violent criminals usually have a hard time staying clean.
If they had smoked Crack, skinned them, and recorded it on a laptop turned over to the FBI they would be selling paintings for $500K each today. Chumps.
I remember “Kill Haole Day” when I was there.

I fully expect the judge will throw throw the book at them.
At least two weeks of public service. Reduced to one after the first week.
And the Dilbert guy has been cancelled for saying white people should not be moving into black neighborhoods...
OK, a couple of dumb questions:
Why weren’t the two tried in state court for attempted murder?
Why did it take nine years to convict and sentence the two?
Restore the monarchy and give them all the open land. Encourage the natives to move back and give them the properties as the Haloes die off.
These people are Americans who got screwed just like the Indians out west(and east).
Get rid of statehood and make 2 senators disappear. Win for us. We know when injustice happens. This one we can correct.
They go back to their old ways, meaning they get poorer-fine. It’s all about self-determination and freedom.
Hawaii never should have been a State.

I live in Rural Hawaii, but not on Maui.
I constantly deal with angry a$$hole Hawaiian’s
and way many more that are good neighbors
and friends.
It is simple. Mainland people move here and expect
Mainland services. Island life doesn’t work that way.
PERIOD!
Some Hawaiians want a return to a dead monarchy.
We are now a State in the USA, so that isn’t going to happen, the modern Democrat oligarchy here won’t tolerate it.
Locally this is what happens. Mainland a$$holes get convinced to leave, and Monarchists, will mix and breed out. Violent guys get taken care of quietly.

One was sentenced to 6 1/2 years, the other 4 years and 2 months. The message isn't strong enough.
