Hello avaition people and pilots.
Isn’t there a valve to isolate a faulty engine from flowing air into the cabin space?

Yes, there is. Plus 2 different fuel shut off valves and hydraulic shut off valves.

This is right from Boeing.
“Pulling the fire handle arms the fire-extinguishing system and shuts down the engine. It also shuts down the fuel furnished to that engine, the pneumatic system, the hydraulic system, and the electrical system associated with that engine.” Also, There are also 2 halon fire extinguisher bottles located in the wheel well area that can be be used to fight fire in either engine. Fires need 3 things to start. Fuel, oxygen and some sort of Ignition source.

Thanks,
Perhaps it’s not first on the procedure, but I’d think when theres smoke pouring in, they would hit the isolation valve..

So a one-hour flight to Cuba from Florida is legal/doable? I’d go there. Name a good travel company that’s not tooo expensive. I’m sure the govenment takes all the proceeds.

On the 737, the Isolation valve is used for a different purpose but the bleed Air SOV would be closed at some point. First things first, maintain aircraft control. let it burn. Engine shutdowns come a little farther down in the procedure. maybe after 2 or 3 minutes into the emergency. Usually takes a minute or so to accurately assess what’s happening and keep the airplane out of the dirt, declare the Emergency and come up with a plan. Then start running checklists, and securing engines or whatever the Emergency is. So 10 minutes to get back on the ground can seem like an eternity.

I was on a commercial flight that was struck by lightning & later said something to a friend about the captain not getting on the speaker & they said a strike might have set off a bunch of alarms that they needed to address.

I’ve been hit by lightning twice and none of the systems went out but it damaged the aircraft both times. I’m not sure passengers noticed either time.

On our plane you could hear a pin drop. Flash of light & immediate boom. This was before 9/11 & a couple young ladies were talking about bombs after the strike. I had my wife who isn’t a good flyer & my 2 year old daughter. Turned around & told them if they didn’t shut up, I was going to call a stewardess.
