I have the Rossington Collins Band debut album somewhere. It's the lamest album in my collection. I get that they didn't want to become Skynyrd 2.0. However, that band was basically Skynyrd plus replacements for RVZ and SG minus Artimus Pyle - thus it sort of WAS Skynyrd 2.0. Further, the music was Carol King with beards. It didn't work IMHO but then I'm not in the Rock Hall.

Skynyard was wildly popular in the suburbs of Philadelphia, and we throw snowballs at Santa. THAT tells you how influential they were. RIP.

Yes, he talks about that in one of the interviews with him and Allen and one of them says “Yeah, we’re not quite as dumb as we look.” LOL!

It’s sad that these great talents tear themselves up so much, tho’. Rossington was the prime object of “That Smell” (and then ironically the plane crash soon followed, which doesn’t appear to have any direct connection with the crazy lifestyle.)
