He wants to be abused because being abused makes you "special". Dumb people run to cuddle you to their bosoms and excuse all the truly moronic things you do and say.
Therapy will not help him because you need to be able to look at yourself honestly for it to work. And for prayer to work it must be an honest cry for help.
You might notice that honesty is necessary in both cases.
Considering how he is baking his brain he might not even be capable of honesty any more.
Probably not. So he needs to stop whatever he's on. Get on some antidepressants. Buy a farm or a ranch and produce something substantial from it. He'll be all right.
I'm not a psychiatrist but that's just my two cents.
Oh and he needs to divorce his wife. She's an enabler. Sometimes people like that are toxic.
