A Southwest flight was diverted from Raleigh-Durham International Airport, leaving passengers stranded with no information or food in a closed Myrtle Beach airport overnight — along with a full plane of fellow travelers.
The 9-hour ordeal involving Southwest flight 3094 included three passengers vomiting as the plane shook “like crazy,” recounted one North Carolina couple on board. Another person, the couple said, had a panic attack and passed out on the plane amid its wild approach into Raleigh — which was aborted at the last second at 1,350 feet, according to flight data.
“It was quite a horrifying experience. We go to land in Raleigh and the plane starts shaking like crazy. Then they decide to tell us 15 minutes later we are going to Myrtle Beach,” said Nicholas Reed, who was traveling with his girlfriend Krys Spence.

Ah dang! We’re supposed to fly out next month to see grandkids and I hate to hear stories like these…now I’m really nervous. I fly as little to none because of nerves 😬…😢
I would think a big heavy plane like a C-130 would handle that kind of weather better than most planes. Am I right?
I’m not afraid of severe turbulence ( many years frequent flier here) however the jostling around throws the body’s heartbeat and breathing rhythm out of sync and the elevated heart rate and shallow breathing kicks my butt. Gotta force myself to breathe deeply to help alleviate getting internally thrown off kilter.
Good thing is the most severe turbulence episodes are usually not of long durations.
Possibly my old unit. EC-130H Compass Call when I was in. Got out in 1994. I was in the 41st Electronic Combat Squadron at the time. Our sister unit, the 43rd, had just moved back stateside in 1991 after supporting Desert Storm (the 43rd was out of Sembach Germany prior to that) when I got to Davis-Monthan. I think the units had a mission swap somewhere in the late 1990s or early 2000s, same jobs, but the different traded unit numbers for some reason (Asian linguists were 41st back then. Now they're 43rd.
Thinking about this more, the people involved will probably face criminal charges for stealing the booze and possibly violating the liquor laws (SC or parts of it has some strange rules or did). I remember being in Myrtle Beach and they had to serve liquor from miniatures so there was no question on how much was dispensed.
They know exactly who was in the airport, they likely have video and airports have cops that have little actual police work to do. Look how quickly they found additional luggage theft cases on that energy department freak once they started looking.
—”They need to fly in a C-130 through a line of monsoon thunderstorms to see what can get really exciting.”
Been there, done that.
But I always suspected it was mostly the crew having some fun with the passengers.
On one, an observation port on the roof was leaking like crazy and water was pouring in! It appeared that every member of the crew would climb up and attempt to seal it.
I’ll never be over Macho Grande.
Hopefully if one is a pilot one doesn’t have to deal with motion sickness. I’d think that would narrow the field for those wanting to be a pilot.
Ah dang! We’re supposed to fly out next month
Southwest Denver to MCO, connecting to a flight to Dublin, to and fro.
Thanks everyone
“OMG what a bunch of pansies. I’m not sure I’ve ever been on a flight where people didn’t vomit even on a good day.”

At least they were let off the plane. There was a similar experience where a plane landed in Rochester, MN, but passengers were not allowed to disembark because the airport was closed for the night. Passengers used their cell phones to contact the police saying they were being held against their will. Local media was also contacted. Conditions on the plane were horrific, toilets overflowing, no water or food and the air conditioning shut off.
Hope you’re not flying United, who has vowed to hire more minorities (blacks and women), even if less qualified than the male pilots.
Drunk student 'urinates' on business class passenger on New York - Delhi AA flight.
LOL
Is there a website/forum devoted to air travel horror stories? Asking for a friend.
One of my offspring and I got some flight time on an F-18 simulator. My offspring had flight hours on a C-130. We both crashed and burned, never trapped successfully.
My hat is off to the Naval Aviator’s that take off from and land on a boat.
Thanks for the pic. Sheesh, in comparison to the others the C-130 looks like one of the Alaska bush planes we have around here.
The Russian one looks ridiculously huge. Since their country is so huge, they must think their planes have to be.
I only did it as a passenger, huge pucker facter.
