So I had a change of heart on this baby blanket (February post #37) for a couple of reasons:
~ The big brother got a baby blanket that was crochet
~ A crochet baby blanket has a 'wrong' side, but it's not as obvious as the knit blanket that has a very definite wrong side.
~ The knit blanket is much more lightweight & delicate than a crochet blanket & a crochet blanket will stand up better to a child older than 'newborn'
~ I have a crochet blanket pattern I've made before & I like it a lot
~ BIG plus - I can crochet a LOT faster than I can knit
Having decided to 'go crochet', I made a trip to Joanne's for yarn. I rarely go there (longest trip), but the other stores did not have what I wanted. Fortunately, Joanne's did and not only that, I had a coupon for 50% off one full price item which saved me $6.00. It was a good day.
Got the yarn Sunday afternoon (2/26) and started crocheting that evening - finished Wednesday morning (3/1), ran in yarn tails Thursday morning - all done, except for washing the blanket. It turned out great IMO.

I came up with my own version of a border & I like it.
PATTERN:
Lunar Crossings Square Blanket Free Crochet Pattern
YARN:
Caron Jumbo Ombre, Color - Faded Jeans, 12 oz., 595 yards, $11.99/skein.
PS: I still plan on doing that knit blanket just for the challenge of it!
Very nice...future family heirloom
Absolutely beautiful. I haven’t crocheted in a while - my son bought a kit for me for Christmas for a crocheted bunny - he did one and it turned out GREAT. I’ve always had problems with tension when I crochet - I’ll have to give it another try.
