When we finished installing it, it was announced that the R-410a was being forced out and replaced, the lifeblood of our new heat pump!
Cram down by the government and advantages given to chosen producers are the path to a corner-cutting crap product. Be it an EV or a heat pump.
I was recently reminded of "The Mythical Man-Month" and that clearly shows how it turns to crap. A fun read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mythical_Man-Month
Supposed to get 14” tonight with 35 mph winds.
Plenty of dry wood still in the racks.
What is a heat pump?
If one woman can have a baby in 9 months, can 9 women have a baby in one month … ?
The first air conditioning system we ever had installed
way back when I was a kid used ammonia as the refrigerant.
Eat less garlic.
The Europeans got DAMN LUCKY this winter, as the temperature stayed warm and the US sent every drop of gas we could liquefy to there (thereby sending natural gas prices soaring in parts of America), after they allowed us to BLOW UP THEIR PIPELINES.
They keep doing these stunts and soon enough they’ll find that big-daddy US will no longer take care of them, and they simply freeze to death.
What’s even more sick is that the 410a phaseout was supported and lobbied for in govt by all the trade organizations. They get a big pay day everytime this happens. New units. New tools. New training. The good news for you is 410 will be around for awhile yet. But it’s madness.
Keepin up with the greenies:
A) Amonia/No good
B) R-22/ No good
c) R-410/ No good
D) You’ll have no cooling and be happy
My brother manufactures F-gases, and then vents with harmony.
Heat pumps generally work well in Southern climates where extreme cold isn’t a thing. For overnight lows in the 40s, it works well.
BUT... When it gets really cold, like below freezing and towards zero, they are much less efficient, and really suck up a lot of wattage.
I live in South Alabama and have two heat pump/air conditioners as I have a large, sprawling house with just my son. This Christmas, we had a week of extreme cold weather (for this area), and my electric bill was over $700. Never again!
I bought a couple of portable heaters for the rooms my son and I stay in and let the rest be cold, if it happens again!
Problem is their Deep State doesn't care about that any more than ours does.
