In the old days, yes.
I don’t know about today’s computerized ignition systems.
I do know if you turn off the key, the steering wheel will lock...........
A ton of keys do that!
I remember solving a few problems by telling women to stop loading their Keychain with crap
I had an MG in the 70’s that would do that.
That was my initial thought, possible you could blow up the cat converter. But I think if the Ignition is turned off, the fuel pump, being electric, will also turn off.
Friend of mine back in High School had an early 70’s Chevelle. He put a ton of work into it, and the long, long, journey was almost done so he could drive it. It was beautiful dark blue with metal-fleck paint, mag wheels, the works.
He took it to the shop to let them adjust somethingorother, handed the keys to the mechanic who fired it up and started into the garage. As the mechanic was steering it into the garage, he turned off the engine and pushed the clutch to coast into position - and THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED... The front right fender hit the door column. Serious damage. Needless to say, the service station paid for the body work. My friend cried first, and then got mad. Funny now, not funny then!
