For those who are working, especially when both do in a marriage and/or have good incomes, I think the income tax savings is greater than the property tax costs. This is particularly true when compared to most any leftist state (CA, NY, IL, NY, MA, ...).\

For retirees, this appears to be reverse. Most don't make enough non-SS income to generate the large state income tax bills that they do when working. This is where the property taxes in Texas are a bit painful. There are some adjustments made for homeowners 65+, like locking in property tax rates once they hit 65, but many are still complaining about rising property tax bills.
