A report earlier Wednesday indicated Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter was present at teammate’s fatal crash and misled police about it. Now, comes word from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department that it has issued an arrest warrant for Carter for reckless driving and racing.
“As a result of the ongoing investigation into the January 15, 2023, fatal crash that occurred in the 900 block Barnett Shoals Road, the Athens Clarke-Country Police Department has secured arrest warrants for Jalen Carter, 21, for Reckless Driving and Racing,” the statement reads. “The investigation found that Chandler LeCroy, driver of the 2021 Ford Expedition, and Jalen Carter, driver of a 2021 Jeep Trackhawk, were operating their vehicles in a manner consistent with racing shortly after leaving the downtown Athens area at about 2:30 a.m. The evidence demonstrated that both vehicles switched between lanes, drove in the center turn lane, drove in opposite lanes of travel, overtook other motorists and drove at high rates of speed in an apparent attempt to outdistance each other. Evidence indicated that shortly before the crash the Expedition was traveling at about 104 mph.

Not the first time. Last September. 89mph in a 45 zone. Cited.
Would you take a chance on him? What round?
The only one who benefits is Will Anderson.
Stupid and evil, should hurt.
Why would anyone in an Expedition take on a Trackhawk?
Dey got dissed?
maybe he should change the spelling of his name to Jailin’
October 1983-Gabriel Rivera. 22 y/o. First rounder Steelers. Broke his neck driving his Porch. Never walked again. Really really drunk.
I read a follow-up article 4 years later. Victimization was the storyline. The article outed him having had “a couple of beers.”
I’m sick of this $hit.
I’ve always loved fast cars, and I’m luck to be alive given some of the stunts I pulled in my teens and twenties. It’s no surprise a young guy with NIL money does something stupid.
The question now, is he stuck on stupid, or will he grow up at some point? Teams in the NFL are asking the same question.
So her BA was .197 but no idea on Carter?
“Why would anyone in an Expedition take on a Trackhawk?”
“The toxicology report indicated that LeCroy’s blood-alcohol concentration was .197”
Alcohol is very effective at lowering inhibitions.
She probably had no idea of the difference in power between the two vehicles.
Seems that there were a number of Bulldogs players and staffers that were part of the late night festivities just before the accident.
*** A new report on the fatal car crash that killed Georgia Bulldogs football player Devin Willock and staffer Chandler LeCroy shows footage taken outside a strip club early morning Jan. 15 that adds some context to the tragic incident.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has acquired footage showing several Georgia players, along with Bulldogs staffers, exiting Toppers International Showbar around 2:30 a.m., 15 minutes before the fatal car crash.
The crash also involved Warren McClendon, a teammate of Willock’s, and recruiting officer Tory Bowles, who left with them 30 minutes after the club closed.***
Article insinuated the girl that died with the.197 BAC was the driver of the Expedition. Why would a girl that looks under aged be driving drunk and then also racing at speeds over 104 mph. I don’t think I ever met women that behaved like this.
Is thatA thing not that women are racing care s on the street illegally? Never heard of it
Charged with racing and reckless driving?! Someone died. SOP is to charge drivers with Vehicular Homicide, right off the bat.
This is about setting up the civil lawsuit for the trial lawyers. He’ll get off on the criminal stuff with a probationary slap on the wrist, but about half of his upcoming NFL salary is about to go to someone else.
If UGA staffers were present, is the university going to end up being liable?
All the victims were in the other car. It isn’t like the Raiders receiver last year. He did not touch the other car. He did not cause the other driver to lose control. He did not force the other driver to drive recklessly. The passengers could have taken a cab.
It is reckless driving (again given 89 in a 45) and racing. It should likely be a DWI, but I doubt they can prove it.
Maybe the NFL teams need to put random alcohol test requirements into their contracts. Giving millions of dollars to 22-year-olds seems irresponsible.
How does a 22-year-old college student afford a car that expensive ($100,000?)? Why doesn’t the NCAA investigate what the players are driving?
24. A staffer involved in recruiting. It’s probably part of her job to see that players and recruits have a good time. Pay was in the mid-5 figures.
Sounds like UGA’s version of the “Gator Getters”.
I just did some reading about him. The Steelers passed on Dan Marino to draft Rivera instead.
Rivera wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, and he was ejected from his new Datsun 280ZX. The other driver wasn’t seriously injured.
They apparently decided not to prosecute Rivera for DUI and reckless driving, saying he had suffered enough.
