There was a LOUD service next door last night, lasting into the wee smalls. Today, the family is hosting a bakar batu (baa-kar baa-two), which is a pig feast. They dig a pit, put in superheated rocks in, put in banana leaves on top, then dump a dead pig in with some ubi (sweet potatoes) and greens and maybe corn or potatoes. They'll cover that with more banana leaves, then close it with the dirt. After 3 or 4 hours, the pit will be opened, the food brought out and served on more banana leaves. We're working today and so will not partake. But, we have put in our 2¢ and so may partake if we so wished.

There was a loud service again today as I headed out to do some work. By the time I came back, the pit had been open and the feast was well underway.

We are not going without. Two young men stopped by my door and gave me roasted ear of corn, an huge ubi, and two rows of belly fat. I don’t see any actual meat there, but maybe somewhere in the middle is some protein.

Good people. I think as soon as my back is turned they’ll steal what they can. I think someone there stole our motorcycle helmets. Also, if we didn’t watch our dogs so carefully they would also steal them for dinner. But, they have a belief in Christ; that He paid the penalty for their sins and they are following Him as well as they can. Their culture has changed as they have become closer to Christ. Just like all of us, they have a ways to go.

And they do NOT vote democrat! LOL! They know the difference between men and women.
