A look back at the news and commercials circa 1979, with a special focus on the national news.

A truckers convoy protest some 200 trucks in Maryland slowing down over the price of fuel.
Whoa.
Longtime anchor Stan Stovall in the newscast but also the late Ron Smith who was an anchor for WBAL-TV then moved to be a talk show host at WBAL Radio.
I believe this station had a puppet doing the news in the very early 70s.
I miss Ron Smith, the "Voice of Reason."
Yes Ron Smith was the voice of reason.
I heard Ron a lot living close to Baltimore he lived in the southern end of York County, Pennsylvania as well.
Ron Smith...wow...used to listen to him all the time. He was helpful to me on my journey to conservatism. RIP, Ron.
As one who grew up during the 1970s, it's always interesting to go back to what was on the TV at the time. This was a time before the Internet, cable TV (for most), video games, cell phones, etc. The television - and to some extent local radio - was how most people got their information and entertainment.
