A remarkable, perhaps historic storm system, is currently approaching our forecast area. Impacts of concern through tonight:
- Severe thunderstorm wind gusts (greater than 80 mph) as storms move through west/central/north Oklahoma and parts of western north Texas - Severe (post-frontal) westerly winds gusting to 60 mph following the line of storms - Significant tornadoes and significant hail produced by severe storms as they track across northwest, west, west-central, southwest Oklahoma and portions of western north Texas (snip)...
...Everyone should have a safety plan in place by now, and by this evening:
+ People located in mobile homes should urgently plan to vacate to nearby/permanent structures + Have multiple ways to receive warnings as power outages appear quite possible with damaging winds + Charge digital devices and cell phones + Secure or put away loose items (e.g., trash cans, trampolines, grills, basketball goals)

I’m in KC about to be hit but nothing like OK. Prayers to all effected in the tornadoes and strong winds.
i thought so! beautiful country. gotta watch myself driving them reservation roads though :).
They’ve just started rolling in feels like spring
How nifty is that! And it’s updating too
Topeka currently getting rain at the rate of 7 inches per hour!
I'm part Native..but not Osage.
Wow. Lived there for 3 years in tornado alley!
yeah dicey is the word for it. and my eyes are not young anymore. i kept it at or below 50 at night no matter who was tailing me. won’t forget an owl encounter i had one night driving in. that bird filled my whole windshield but somehow, thank God, i didn’t hit it.
Leading edge just blew through here in the last five minutes. I’ve seen worse but it is pretty sporty.
Back in 72 When I was there, there were still reminders of the Storm that went through Topeka, it had taken out a chunk of the KS capitol rendered a 12 story hi rise unusable not to mention lifting up Engines from the Santa Fe yards. It was a monster!!
Part of that Texas tail is whipping past my place now. Blowing rain, wind making weird noises blowing through the trees and over the metal roof.
Wow! THAT is rain.
(Crocodile Dundee and the “knife” type emphasis.)
And I thought MY back yard was flooded a couple days ago...
Was that the storm that took out the State Tree?
In ‘67, IIRC, we were driving through Kansas and a tornado took out a small town less than 30 minutes after we passed through. My Dad was calm (good thing, he was driving), my Mom, not so much.
Hope Y’All are safe.
Anyone reading this before 0300h PST living in the Pac NW or northern plains states if you have clear skies there’s a very bright display of northern lights, I live near the border and this is the brightest one I’ve seen since March 1989 when the Hydro Quebec grid crashed. Bright green curtains and rays with some other colors. Guessing it may be visible as far south as Oregon and southern Idaho at least.
But it didn’t last a whole hour at that rate, of course. More like a few minutes..
I am so not looking forward to that storm and thw flooding that’s gonna come with it here in IL. Maybe it’ll be slow at work tomorrow.
Yeah, pretty much impossible to maintain. Still an impressive “dump” by Mo’ Nature.
Looks like it has weakened some. With the winds, tho’, holding up even after the line passes, it appears I’ll be dropping off wifey to work tomorrow.
It looks like the Mighty Mississippi might get the recharge that it needs, at least partially.
