That election was arguably dodgy, but no question that there was indeed a coup

More truth from Elon. The 2010 election that installed Yanukovych as president, by the way was deemed an “impressive display” of democracy by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

Elon Musk calls 2014 Ukraine regime change a ‘coup’

Is Elon Musk a Putin Puffer too?! Doesn’t he know giving ALL OUR MONEY to Ukraine “unconditionally” is the #1 priority for the USA?

An interesting comparison is the coup against Salvador Allende in Chile and the one against Ferdinand Marcos in the Philippines.

Its a matter of the choice of words and their rhetorical purpose. The liberal press was quick to call the removal of Allende as a coup, much less so the removal of Marcos or Yanukovych. But the differences are mainly about the mechanics of removal, not the fundamentals.

The general circumstances are interestingly parallel. A president that opposes the clear national will on certain important policy questions, or perhaps his perceived failures, and who has alienated democratic state institutions, and has overstepped his authority.

In Chile the military bit the bullet and reluctantly organized a classic coup d’etat. In Ukraine it was much less classic, the military not being involved, but it served the same purpose.

In the Philippines it is the anniversary of yet another such “coup”, I suppose it was the first “color revolution”. It too had a lot of parallels to Ukraine. I participated in that one. There was a classic military coup atte

Its a difficult business dealing with gross failures of governance on the part of elected leaders.

The US has its own issues on this score. It’s probably due a “color revolution” of its own.

“It was violent coup supported and funded by the Obama administration.”

Very true. But one of the things that confused me was their 2019 election, which was basically a fair election. It was then explained that when the Neocons get control of a government in 2014, they also get control of the media and education and culture, so by 2019, the people had been BRAINWASHED (similar to the Ukraine Cheerleaders today) to hate Russia. Add to that the fact that who controls the voting often controls the outcome of that voting.

Makes sense to me, and the fact that we drilled with the Azovs (Nazis) there in 2015 only enforces our control.

Well Elon at first armed the Ukrainians with his starlink.
Now he’s gone a bit anti Ukraine.

Chinese Tesla factories perhaps a factor.

Yanukovych was a loathsome Putin puppet.

2014 was a revolt.

The rank and file in that revolt were Ukrainian populists.

Unfortunately it was Obama and the liberal world order that organized the revolt and they are still involved in Ukraine.

Except nowadays, the Chicoms control the moves in the West. And all they want is mayhem, over there in Ukraine, over here in U.S. and throughout the West. And that's what we have.

I meant to say that in the Philippines there was an actual military coup attempt in 1986, but it failed. The “color revolution” followed immediately after. So one can say that that was a “coup” also, if one is ill disposed to the post-Marcos dispensation.

... so by 2019, the people had been BRAINWASHED (similar to the Ukraine Cheerleaders today) to hate Russia.

The pist Maidan coup ensured the installation of power structures from Galicia, Volhynia and Bukovina. The hate for Russia was already virulent in these places. So much so, this was a feature of the coup and what the neocons planned to have follow - war. Trump delayed this, and the Ukrainians (Vindman) got an impeachment out of it.

https://englishrussia.com/2014/02/22/pillaged-residence-of-ukrainian-president/

Wonder where he is today - supposedly he took all the money and ran to Russia leaving behind all THIS...From everything I can find, nothing has been done with the property. What keeps people from just looting it or moving in?

Wikipedia has lots information on him.

It is dirty pool to dismiss free elections on the grounds of being “brainwashed”. It permits anyone to reject any election for any reason.

There is no democratic system that can survive if those are the grounds for claiming illegitimacy.

The US “deep state” could easily claim that Florida elections are illegitimate because of the prevalence of right wing social media, “brainwashing” the electorate into rejecting the MSM narrative and its “fact checkers”.

Thanks for these thoughts. None of these other coups had the US State Dept laid so bare as an actor than the 2014 Ukraine example. I suspect we were involved in these other examples in equivalent degree - I don’t know.

I have heard it said Yanukovitch is in Moscow just hanging out. Some want him put back into power in what was once Ukraine. Now THAT would be the kind of funny Russians would pull.
