Nature isn’t cruel it is simply completely disinterested.
“Nature isn’t cruel it is simply completely disinterested.”
Bingo. Nicely put. Our NextDoor app in North Idaho gets all sorts of similar concerns for suburban wild animals (deer, turkeys, coyotes). Most people tell them what you said — “it’s nature. they live with it, adapt or die.” But they don’t want to hear that. They want to put out food for the animals in winter. Knowledgeable people tell them that is exactly the wrong thing to do, that animal diets change throughout the year to adapt to what food is available and healthy for them, and that man-made food is bad for them. They do not want to hear that; they think they are “helping” the animals.
The funny thing is Idaho has 55 million wild acres. How do they think wild animals survive without human help on the 54.9 million acres outside our few cities and towns?
