At 73, I’m already retired. Even though I do a little hardware/software work for a few clients, I do not make enough to purchase a new car. It would also be unwise to spend money to install a charging station for an EV. Assuming I’m left alone, I want to quietly hide from this degenerate society.
The whole EV thing is shocking.
I live in snowville. Car needs to be in garage attached to house. Cannot have electrical car in garage due to fire issues.
If I lived in a decent sunbelt city or town I would go solar and get a ev. But in the north?
I get a torque rush in my ICE car. 0-60 in 3.4 sec.
Smart people? If you mean those folks who know nothing about energy storage, power transmission, and other useful aspects of EE, yup, they want electric cars.
For those of us who work in the field, it’s gonna be interesting. Get used to destruction of the dearth, blackouts, piles of windmill and battery debris to dispose of.
There is a reason politicians are politicians - they faild miserably in any real STEM class.
I think that very few will be buying new cars for a couple of years, at least.
EVs are even less likely unless they are made half the price of gas vehicles.
Government doesn’t have the money to subsidize— I think the days of pretending they do is running short.
The locals mostly steer clear of me, thanks to my participation in numerous Veterans Day assemblies at the local elementary school. For some reason, they're uncomfortable about old vets like me...lol.
Additionally, my family hasn't been jabbed, nor do we wear masks in public. That's scary to the primary demographic around here.
I’m in the Atlanta area. I still have no use for an EV or solar gimmicks.
I'd wager that most EV drivers today knew nothing about them until the government got their filthy hands in the auto business.
Since they are marketed as earth friendly, the gullible masses took notice (backed by government incentive), and here we are fighting the ICE vs. EV battle again.
While they may be great for Lichtenstein, Andorra, and Vatican City, they fail miserably in places like the US and Australia.
My answer is not a chance. Electric battery power is OK for some purposes like hand tools, but it will never work for a reliable high-energy draw, high-demand purpose.
Until EVs can AT LEAST do what ICE vehicles can do now its a no go for many people.....me anyway.
hell I get aggravated just having to continously recharge my drill batteries.....having to contend with a car I’d probably take hostages at some point.
“All the smart people.....” KNOW EV’S WILL NEVER WORK in real life!
They cannot be charged easy enough or fast enough for real life.
And they are too expensive and in reality pollute more than IC engines. And neither the electric grid nor our generating capacity can support a significant percentage of EV’s.
Smart people know this. It’s the Woke mob who are idiots.
BTW, I’m a retired EE........
It's those pesky laws of physics and chemistry.
Not until the space men from planet Oberon III land and show us how to power everything for pennies a day.
“If I lived in a decent sunbelt city.....”
That’s apparently not a solution either:
I let high school kids into my basement machine shop during the robotics build season. I teach them how to use hand and machine tools. One Asian kid showed up faithfully wearing his face mask. (Just last week) I asked him who he was trying to protect, himself or me. He responded, "I like to think I am protecting us both". I told him he should broaden his reading horizon, because even Fauci admits masks do neither.
He stayed, mask on, for a few hours. I haven't seen him since.
I understand what you have to endure. Too many morons.
No, but they are about to paralyze the country...
Wait, whut?
(2) even with greatly increased sales, the existing gasoline-powered cars will not go away and will still be on the road and the dominant vehicles in 2035 and even 2050,
Not sure what this means. The “dominant vehicles” on the road in 2050 will be those sol after 2035, not “existing” gasoline-powered cars.
