I have no desire to get an EV. A combination of limited range, added weight and complete lack of respect (and trust) for the elitists pushing the green energy “revolution”.

Electric Vehicles About To Sweep The Country?

Well, if they do, at least they'd be somewhat useful.

Yes, lets outfit all EVs front bumpers with brooms, so that wherever they go, they are cleaning up and tidying our byways.

I haven't seen any reports on how long it would take to develop the grid and power generation infrastructure needed to support EVs, but that would be a good indication of just how quickly or slowly EVs will take over.

That said, I'll bet the electric utilities are licking their chops over the prospects.

Why would I want to follow the dictates of a kakistocracy?

I think there should be an investigation into why, even after so many states and even the federal government told the automobile manufactures to invent a better, cheaper battery they have not. Maybe a little time in a re-education camp would revive their priorities.

But this time the central planning is worldwide so it's gotta work...LOL.

Something about the first line, "It seems like all the smart people have made up their minds that the future of automobiles belongs to electric vehicles." reminds me of ol Pauline Kael's famous Nixon quote. Probably the same group of "smart people" involved.

I hope people buy millions of EVs and then realize the shortfalls in the driving experience.

No taking long road trips without hours at a charger that may or may not work at very high electric rates that result in the same cost/mile as ICE vehicles.

Not being able to tow more than 100 miles.

Large differences in range depending on how many people, cargo you have.

What will kill EVs is the user experience. I say, let people find out for themselves.

Good column. The central planning will not end well.

So, are electric vehicles about to sweep the country and become the dominant form of transportation? I bet against it.

Agreed. I certainly won’t buy one. The number one reason is a bunch of commies are pushing it and not the market. Demand is supported by government incentives and tyrannical laws and regulations. I am not against EV technology. I’m simply against centralized planned and controlled economies. They fail. I will not be contributing to the failure of America.

If I need to buy a car before I die, it will be an old car, one that lacks electronics.

EVs are good for commuter cars or for housewives doing errands around town as these cars can be plugged in at home each night and will do no more than maybe 100 miles a day.

They are not ready yet for extensive driving and longer trips.

“It seems like all the smart people have made up their minds that the future of automobiles belongs to electric vehicles.”

No, they’re just people who the media has let speak into their microphones.

People that drive EVs get a torque rush and think they have discovered the meaning of life. You pay a heavy price in the loss of creature comfort, range, convenience and quick “recharge” time ( takes forever ) for that cool torque burst. EVs are boutique toys.

Wait until the various taxes associated with gasoline and diesel are shifted over the electricity.

You can think about that when you’re stuck in traffic, your EV doors won’t open, and your batteries start to explode in a chain reaction.

Me too. I bought a 2014 Altima a few years ago, will have it paid off in six months. It's a great car to drive, but I mostly use it for commuting 3 days a week. I'll turn 69 in a few months, hope to work 2-3 more years.

It's mostly my choice to work, thankfully. Good company, perfect for my "last rodeo".

THhe ICE vs EV vs steam vehicle war was fought over 100 years ago. ICE won.
