With two Republicans already in the 2024 presidential race and possibly a half-dozen more in spring, some forward-thinking strategists are already looking to next year, when the eventual nominee will pick a running mate.
While there are a lot of choices, the early betting is on a Capitol Hill firebrand uniquely poised to bring in the libertarian wing of the GOP, which could provide a bump of 3% to 4% of the vote.
“There are only two realistic GOP nominees: Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis,” said an adviser to House Republicans who is also close to several past conservative presidential candidates.
Since neither is likely to pick the other as a running mate, the adviser offered libertarian Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) as a good fit.
“Rand Paul as VP for either eliminates the need for a libertarian nominee or third-party candidate," the adviser said. "And having that extra 3%-4% moving to the Republican ticket in 10-12 key states would be the margin of victory."

We have discussed Rand as VP before and many Freepers said it's not a wise career move but I think it's a good fit...
Trump/Lake ‘24
We need him where he is.
VP is a huge waste of his talents.
Secretary of Treas. / State/ Comm. would be a huge win for him and us.
Could you imagine if he had pull over the fed?? AWESOMENESS
It doesn’t matter who runs. Unless the fraud perpetrated in the last two elections is countered, it will be for naught.
Some said that about Youngkin in VA (he would never win).
I think we CAN fight back
I like both of them, but that would be a pit bull ticket. 😏
The problem is the Senate’s IQ and honorability index would drop 10 points.
If losertarians were logical, but they aren't. They would rather talk about legalizing drugs or lowering the age of consent or other such off the wall topics than actually win elections and take the responsibility of governing.
But, yes, Rand Paul might help peel off a few of them.
I like Paul for President myself. He seems to be the only one in Washington who is not only willing to take on the vaccines, but gain of function itself.
I like what Rand is doing on that too. But admittedly, I think the main reason the conservatives are letting him take the lead on that is because he's a doctor and can speak the medical lingo better than the others rightfully against gain of function.
I love the choice of Sen. Rand Paul for VP for either President Trump or Gov DeSantis! I support President Trump, but that may not work out my way, and if that is the case, I can gladly support DeSantis or Rand Paul.
It’s the Justice Ticket.
Both of them had their elections stolen from them, and Justice demands they be compensated.
The best place for Senator Paul is Kentucky SENIOR Senator.
I don’t know if DeSantis would pick him,but I don’t see Trump ever doing it.
Trump has made it pretty clear he will talk about voter fraud, but he will not lift a finger to stop it.
Yes. So many times, Rand is the adult in the room that no one wants to listen. But there still needs to be an adult in the room.
is it Trump’s responsibility alone?
Or that of all citizens who care about it to enforce their constitutional responsibility to hold legislatures accountable, work to get regulations, laws etc changed.
Citizens can get involved in many ways but most are hoping some one else will do it for them.
We’d have the first ARTICULATE and SMART female VP. Unlike the brainless sack of shee-it we have today. The idiot in the VP role today only has a good tan going for her, nothing else.
Are there any?
