Fire at famed Carmel Halloween house
A home with some notoriety on the Central Coast was the scene of a house fire Saturday.
Firefighters responded to the house fire on Willow Place in the Mission Fields neighborhood of Carmel Saturday afternoon.
No people were hurt in the fire however one pet cat was burned and underwent treatment at a local emergency veterinarian. The homeowners worked with the American Red Cross for temporary housing after being displaced by the fire.
The house that erupted in flames was the well-known Halloween haunted house. The family has been going all out with decorations for 25 years. Bryon Whitehead and his wife pull out all the stops, attracting more than 2,000 people to view the spectacle.
Several agencies helped Carmel firefighters at the house fire, including Monterey Fire, Seaside Fire, American Medical Response, and the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Hansel and Gretel had that gingerbread house, but a carmel house?
I hate neighbors like that, who over-decorate and have an insatiable need for more and more attention from the public.
If you have a lot of open space on both sides of your home, that’s different.
*Maybe somebody thought this Carmel House
was actually a Charnel House.
Charnel House: A building or vault in which corpses are piled high.
Carmel Mission Basilica is around the corner.
The neighborhood never was big enough for the both of them.
You think Catholics burned it down?
Possibly. Most likely one of the more unruly regulars from Mission Ranch’s piano bar.
So you agree with the FBI’s crackdown on evil terrorist Catholics?
I’ll assume you’re kidding.
