While the risk of escalation can't be ruled out, it must be balanced against the risks of allowing this conflict to drag on as Ukrainians and Russians are killed daily. Putin will negotiate seriously when he sees no military path forward — and that may happen if his hold on Crimea becomes untenable.

I’m with you.
You can’t convince an emotional Zeeper with logic.
Give ‘em nukes?
Kristof?

The only way Ukraine will regain their pre-2014 borders is with NATO boots on the ground. And by NATO, we all understand that these forces would primarily be Americans.
And introducing Americans into the battlefield means Russia will likely introduce tactical nukes into the battlefield to be used as they were designed and planned.
People who say Russia would never use nukes forget that this was precisely the conflict that Russian military doctrine expressly calls for a nuclear "escalate to de-escalate" response.
NATO combat troops in Ukraine is a major escalation but without this, we are only prolonging the inevitable. We can give Ukraine all the military hardware they ask for but what we can't give them are more Ukrainians. It's simple math. They'll run out of soldiers long before Russia does.
The choices will soon be stark. Cut a deal with Putin or send U.S. forces to face a modern, battle-hardened army in their own backyard, something we haven't had to do for a long time.
There is a lot of truth to what you said. Aside all that I still think that Ukraine has a lot more in common with Russia than it ever will have, as hard as it may try with the US. And if they give it some serious thought they may not find it as desirable as they think, as it appears more glorious than it really is.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a war crime. You’d better have a damn good reason to kill civilians and break things. I was quite sympathetic to Putin before the invasion. But that damn good reason to invade just wasn’t there.
By golly, you are correct with your examples! Bush II committed a war crime by invading Iraq. In a fair world he should be in prison. I try not to hate any person. But, yeah. I hate Bush II for all the blood he spilled and all the misery he caused.
Biden committed a war crime by blowing up the Nord Stream pipeline. Our involvement in Serbia, Libya, and Syria were criminal as well. It is a pity that most Americans only see war crimes when they are committed by other nations.
Supporters here of the dancing homo don’t care.
“Biden Should Give Ukraine What It Needs to Win”
He did. They stole and sold most of it.
THANK YOU
We should let Russia take Ukraine.
And if Russia wants Poland and Finland and Sweden and Norway and other adjacent countries, that’s fine too.
It’s none of our business.
While the risk of escalation can’t be ruled out, it must be balanced against the risks of allowing this conflict to drag on as Ukrainians and Russians are killed daily. Putin will negotiate seriously when he sees no military path forward — and that may happen if his hold on Crimea becomes untenable.
The only way Russia’s hold on Crimea becomes untenable is if we intervene militarily. I notice Ukraine never fought back or tried to retake it when Russia stole it.
All democrats are war mongers. I will not fight for them but I will fight against them.
Was our invasion of Iraq a war crime?
Was Clinton ordering the bombing Serbia? In 1999, the Clinton administration launched a 78-day bombing campaign that killed up to 1500 civilians in Serbia and Kosovo in what the American media proudly portrayed as a crusade against ethnic bias. That war, like most of the pretenses of U.S. foreign policy, was always a sham
> Was our invasion of Iraq a war crime? <
Oh, yes. Absolutely. And so were the other incidents you mentioned.
Please see my post #27.
Ukrainian politics, lol. Why involve ourselves with a bunch of greedy reprobates in Eastern Europe/Russia? Might as well be sub-Saharan Africa, we hardly create propaganda/real-time concerns in their struggles. I can only conclude globalists are racist as heck along with being usurious materialistic control freaks.
EVERYTHING about UKRAINE has a stench, a corrupted, rotting , walking corpse.
Well Nicholas Kristof Ukraine needs boots on the ground. Join them.
The only way Ukraine will regain their pre-2014 borders is with NATO boots on the ground.

Your opinion, mine says NATO gets clobbered should they attempt something that stupid 6,000 plus miles away.
My money goes on Vlad, he holds all the cards.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a war crime.

The Ukies bombing the ethnic Russian provinces since 2014 is a war crime. Neither side will ever back down, the Ukies are spent, deenergized, deindustrialized, depopulated,….no amount of western welfare can save them.
