You do this on a farm or in the country.
Heck, I drove our riding lawn mower when I was six.
It took my whole weight to depress the clutch.
Or an EMPTY parking lot......I kinda wonder if some people really should have kids. SMH
Cars are dangerous! Obviously what is needed is some common-sense automobile legislation!
When I was that age I remember sitting on dad’s lap driving his pickup. One of my fondest childhood memories. They didn’t even have cup holders back then to hold his beer.
Hey, what’s the problem, she needed someone to take her to town to get her next fix.
We have a dead-end road near us that was built in anticipation of an industrial park that never really materialized. It’s a great place to teach kids to drive, and also to drive a manual.
I have no idea what the speed limit is, but the road is long enough that you can get up to 40-50 mph.
When I was 12 - my friend, his 14 year-old brother and me, would load up his dad’s guns in their family car, and we would drive to an empty field outside town to shoot at bottles and cans.
That would classed as an DHS major terrorist event today.
Wasn’t she teaching only one kid?
What’s the problem? That’s what women do. They back out and crash.
My Mustang has been hit twice. Both times by a woman backing up. One was my client. One was my wife. Both times...I kept my mouth shut. Well, I hugged my wife.
“I hugged my wife.”
Smart man
My father taught me to drive in empty parking lots and such starting when I was about 14 or 15.
Florida Man in training.
Florida Girl just teaching her kid how to get her home after a long day of day drinking. Nothing new.
I took drivers Ed in high school and it was invaluable.
Is that not a thing anymore?

I suspect that’s actually illegal, whereas teaching kids to drive in a parking lot was not actually what she was arrested for. They nicked her for child endangerment and “allowing an unauthorized person to drive”, probably overreactions (and the latter probably only applies on the public roads even if it says otherwise).
I taught the boys to drive on 100acres of deserted parking lot; they were teens and hopelessly paranoid. Taught my daughter to drive at 8. She insisted after she found out I learned to drive as a toddler (on west Texas highways, heheh). She was a very careful driver as a preteen but later college took its toll.
Earlier than that is irresponsible.
We were lucky and had an old beat up dodge dart given to us to practice driving in the fields (and woodland trails lol). We learned how to slide around corners, do brodies, and to tear up,the field. The old roads in the area were all skidmarked with burnouts, and that is when we learned how expensive tires were lol. (There’s not a lot to do in the country, so older abandoned roads took the brunt of our boredom acrivities).
Later we learned to drive on ice out on the lakes, which was really invaluable- ,earned how to recover from slides, and how to back up, crank the wheel, and hit the brakes to slide the car around, and shove the car into gear and take off all in one motion- there’s a name for thay maneuver, but can’t remember it.
Came in handy later in life when my vw station wagon swung around d on wet pavement and before I knew it I was driving backerds, a d had to swing it around again. That’s when I, learned that rear engine cars can be tricky on wet pavement.
> There’s no plausible reason why you would teach a 9-year-old to drive a car
Well, it’s a necessary skill in this country. It’s not particularly difficult after the physical requirements are met. Judgement is more essential and age is not a firm indicator of good judgment, heheh.
One child and it’s a “them”?
Them?
