Back in the seventies, I watched a demonstration of a military laser firing. The briefer noted that many decision makers were disappointed that the laser produced no sound on firing. He laughed when I suggested that it would be simple to incorporate an artillery simulator to produce sound effects.
The phasers on Star Trek TOS always made noise!
Us kids could make that same sound with our mouths!................
