The team has recently published two papers...that studied supermassive black holes at the hearts of ancient and dormant galaxies..."We're really saying two things at once: that there's evidence the typical black hole solutions don't work for you on a long, long timescale, and we have the first proposed astrophysical source for dark energy," said Astrophysicist Duncan Farrah, lead author of both papers.

"What that means, though, is not that other people haven't proposed sources for dark energy, but this is the first observational paper where we're not adding anything new to the universe as a source for dark energy: black holes in Einstein's theory of gravity are the dark energy."
These new measurements, if supported by further evidence, will redefine our understanding of what a black hole is.
That is raciss on so many levels......................π
No, you are not correct. The reality is “These new measurements, if supported by further evidence, will redefine what we call these objects. Woke physicists will now require you to replace ‘Black hole’ with ‘Super-dense object from which no electromagnetic radiation can escape the event horizon.’”
Why use nine letters when 99 will do?
why are we always having to read stories about Baltimore?
I can buy that. Black holes running the U.S. Dark Government.
I should have provided a better summary on this.
If correct, this will be one of the most important discoveries in Physics in the last century.
In short - the gravitational force of supermassive Black Holes at the center of ancient galaxies continues to increase AFTER the Black Hole is no longer consuming new gas or new planetary solids.
There is at least one theory about where the increased gravity is coming from that perfectly agrees with other experimental data.
“We’re really saying two things at once: that there’s evidence the typical black hole solutions don’t work for you on a long, long timescale, and we have the first proposed astrophysical source for dark energy,”
I can think of something else to call it...
I was just finishing up listening to Andrew Strominger: Black Holes, Quantum Gravity, and Theoretical Physics | Lex Fridman Podcast #359 - just released yesterday.
It allowed me to kinda sorta understand what this article is talking about. Like I didn't even know that the concept of De Sitter space existed before today. Cool stuff.
Eurika! I think I’ve got it: The universe is expanding, but we don’t know why. We’ll call it Dark Energy - energy in the universe that we can’t measure, influencing the Dark Matter - matter we can’t see. But that means that Black Holes are getting more massive, though they’re not gaining any more material. That’s called “Cosmological Coupling” - coupling we can’t measure.
That certainly explains it all. It certainly proves Catastrophic Global Warming - warming we can’t measure, caused by energy we can’t see. Drinking too much swamp water is certainly a factor.
Black holes are composed of all the missing socks.

This clearly indicates that the funding cycle is getting a lot tougher to survive...
If you are a campaigning politician you talk about “motherhood” and “apple pie”...
If you are a desperate astrophysicist you talk about uniting “black holes” and “dark energy”...
