INTERLACHEN, Fla. — Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said a 67-year-old woman shot and killed a man they said forced his way into her home with a gun.
The man was identified as 64-year-old Reginald Best.
According to the police report, the 67-year-old said she heard the door handle shaking around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning and grabbed a gun to see what was going on. She told deputies she thought it could have been her husband because he works late, odd hours.

A separate article indicated "The woman that lives with Best said lately he’s been hanging around people that sell meth.". Best's brother said he had mental illness.
Maybe it was a tragic mental break. Maybe it was drugs.
But the 67-year old woman was home with her 90-year old mother. What was she supposed to do? Have him pee on a stick or look at ink splotches?
If she's done those things, we'd possibly be reading about a dead woman and a crazy but alive man getting institutionalized.
Sad. But she's Not guilty.
They’re not even considering taking any action against the homeowner:
“Putnam County Sheriff Gator DeLoach told Action News Jax had she not had the firearm, we might be investigating a double homicide,” he said.
DeLoach said the woman will not face any charges.”
Best made his worst and last mistake.
Probably a meth head. Hanging around people who do that, well…no good comes of it.
Probably drug induced psychosis, but he did have a gun. That woman was wise to take no chances.
As an aside, why is this woman’s age featured so prominently in the title and report? Not that it matters, but what difference does it make?

Not certain. This is my county of residence! FL statutes provide more severe penalties for crimes committed against people aged >60 yr. Probably started for financial and caregiving abuses but does extend to assaults, etc.
