I’m pretty sure they have even those now. Kevin McClory died, no? Either he or his family sold the rights to Thunderball/Never Say Never Again/Warhead 2000, 2001, etc. (that one never got made).
Then they reacquired the rights to Casino Royale and made a serious movie out of it.
with some suspecting the films would have to return to Bond’s childhood
Way back when there was a cartoon called “James Bond Jr.” — something like an early version of “Spy Kids.”
I don’t think it would satisfy most Bond fans but it would be preferable to some of the other crap I’ve heard.

They’ll want the picture to make money so I doubt it.

I’d be ok OK with a black Bond if it was Elba (yes come kill me), after seeing “Luther” I thought he was perfect for the role but unfortunately he’s too old to be believable in more than 1 and they want like a 10 year deal to do 3 films.

Time for Bond to retire, like Tom Brady. It had a nice run, but it’s over.

I agree. I thought Craig was a terrible choice for Bond in 2006 (and I STILL think he was miscast!) but whoever they cast to replace him in the current climate will be 10X worse. I never thought it would be possible, but by the time the next film rolls around, they’ll have me begging Craig to come back.

Nobody wants a revinvented Bond. We want the guy Ian Fleming created and Sean Connery defined.
If some people wnat a female Bond, there is a simple way to do that. Create a character who is, say, 007’s niece (or something.) Name her Jane Bond. Have her work with James in one movie, then spin her off into her own franchise.

No, maybe Lizzo. Stacey Brams would spend the entire movie claiming to the duly-electd M.

Roger Moore was pretty good, but it went downhill after that.

How do you have Ana de Armas in a Bond movie and not have her be the “Bond girl”?

Not quite. Do what Star Trek did. Remember
Generations, where the Kirk crew essentially handed off to the Picsrd crew? Remember that one scene where Picard does something for Kirk and when Kirk thanks him, he sayd, "The lest I could do for hte captain of the
Enterprise."
If they wanted to retire Bond but keep the franchise alive, they could do something similar.

Black Bond? HELL no. As Rush Limbaugh used to point out, Bond is described in the books as having Swiss and Scottish ancestry, that ain't Idris. As you also noted, he's way too old to be STARTING a career as Bond anyway. I don't see what's with Hollywood's obsession with race and gender swapping every iconic character these days.
It works both ways too. Taking a character who has always been non-white and "updating" them by casting a white guy is a clusterf**k too. Benedict Cumberbatch is a talented guy, but he sure as hell is NOT 'Khan Noonien Singh'.
The problem is also the double standard in Hollywood. For example, Mr. T's character on the 80s TV show The A-Team was a muscular, badass, no-nonsense ex-military, tough guy. There are tons of white actors who could pull that off. But they wouldn't DARE remake The A-Team, have Liam Hemsworth grow a beard and mohawk, and cast him as "B.A. Baracus". Liam Hemsworth would get crucified if he took on an iconic role played by a black dude and started doing his trademark "I Pity the Fool!"

Post #54 makes a good point, too. The producers announcing they will cast a male actor is essentially meaningless in today's warped society, because the mindset of modern Hollywood is anyone who 'identifies' as male IS one. They could cast 'Elliot' Page and these producers would be jizzing themselves about how they kept Bond's "traditional masculinity intact" but "modernized" the role with the "first transgender Bond"
