What happens when the battery runs out?

It’s because they are stupid people, who think riding a bike at the 40km/hr is wise and they don’t take care to ride defensively.

You pedal anyway. The battery provides an assist

Then they pedal, but I think pedaling a bike that weighs 20lbs more because of a battery is onerous. I don’t own an E-bike, so I can’t say for certain on that one, but it should be engineered so that it’s just a bike when it runs out of juice.

I have ridden a bike with a trailer and it’s no more difficult to pedal a bike with a trailer that is loaded with about 70lbs worth of stuff than it is to ride it without the trailer.

“E-bike injuries were also more than three times as likely to involve a collision with a pedestrian...”

I believe it. Bicyclists in general show little to no concern for pedestrians, but at least if they are only going 20 mph they can slam on the brakes or swerve to avoid hitting one when they finally notice it’s about to happen.

Due to their weight and turning radius E-bikes need to be handled more like motorcycles than bicycles.

Some have accelerators & do not require peddling to move. Mine will go 20 mph without any help from me.

The Surgeon General recommends e-bikes as an effective form of birth control.

At my local bike shop, E bikes outsell regular 5-1.

And an indictment of fat, lazy Americans.

Except for the gas vs electric, what’s the difference in an E-Bike and the old MoPed...

Ebikes are very popular with kids in my area. They ride much faster than standard bikes, so no surprise the injuries are more serious.

Yes pedestrians have a time of it. I transported an elderly lady mowed down on the sidewalk by an ebike when she stepped out of her apartment building.

Motorcycles don’t drive on sidewalks. Some scooters and ebikes do. Terrible consequences for pedestrians.

I saw about ten people riding sweet electric bikes around town after Christmas. Here is February and I have not seen them for awhile. Expensive bikes that seem fun but are big and bulky.

The battery doesn’t look removable. My preference would be a modular bike, although I can see the advantage here because you can’t tell off-hand that it’s an e-bike.

My LPGA neighbor Jaye Marie was in a bad accident on one up at our beach a couple of years ago. She’s still not the same.

I think they’re dangerous, and many people that have never ridden a mini-bike or a motorcycle just aren’t prepared to safely operate them.
