I am looking at a final swan-song
Myself | Now | Me

Posted on 02/14/2023 4:02:54 AM PST by GunHoardingCapitalist

I have seen a huge rising of so called veterans support groups, from service dogs to PTSD groups. What can we trust on the interwbs to be actually sincere or just a hoax to gain money and change the business name after honest people have given funds too?

In August I am planning my final professional race, but I want 100% of any winnings or sponsorship money to go to true veteran charaties where help is needed not tied up. Is Mission 22 or Veteran service dogs a proper place to donate to?

My father and I make up almost 10% of the veterans in our community, so donating local would be like taking a dollar out of one pocket and putting it in the other, thats why Im reaching out for a bigger cause

Swan-song may have been a bit harsh, but this Is the last professional race of my career, it will be fully funded by myself because I have to have stake and a dog in the fight, otherwise I would feel that im freeloading on the charity of others. Most of my pledged sponsors are local groups or business that I support their products.

I am a massive underdog to even finish the race, 500 miles of open desert, one man one machine, Ironman class on a ATV designed for deep mud not sand.

In a way a statement, that no matter the age (Im 45), no matter status or past, tomorrow is a new day to help others. I have seen to many veteran support groups tie the funds up in “administrative costs” where pennies on the dollar are actually spent helping those that swore an oath and was willing to give all for others. So I want to be sure that all profits and leftover goes to a proper cause.

I have been a member of my local American Legion for the past 25 years, held every office with the exception of Worthy Commander. Our small community just doesnt have the membership or surviving Vetrans to sustain our local lodge, otherwise it would go to them.

I support Paws of War. They rescue dogs from animal shelters and train them to provide independence and support as service dogs and companion animals to veterans and first responders who have suffered trauma. Their motto is “Help a Vet. Save a Pet. Helping both ends of the leash.”

I was impressed that they use all types of dogs, not just the usual German Shepherds and Labs. They also do animal rescue for deployed military, housing assistance for veterans with pets, and other related issues.

Thank you. I have given what I could over the years, but your hand in this on an entirely different scale.

God bless you, Sir.

https://www.charitynavigator.org/

I use the above site when looking at a new charity. Breaks down how much money goes to the actual cause, how much in salaries, fund raising, etc.

I will look into them, having PTSD myself, a furry friend can be more therapeutic and I could get behind that support.

There are lots of K9 vet charities, but this is the only one that rescues the dogs from shelters. I think it’s unique and special.
